Hypnotherapy will help you overcome your fear of dogs!
Dogs are commonly known as ‘man’s best friend’. Descriptors such as cute, cuddly and loyal are regularly used to describe our canine friends.
So why then is the fear of dogs (cynophobia) so common? Why do some people go weak at the knees and all loving at the sight of a pair of big brown eyes and a wet nose whilst others go into a state of panic?
Perhaps you don’t even know why you are afraid; ‘You just are’. Maybe you have a clear understanding and remember a specific incident – perhaps when you were little a big dog jumped up on you in play , but knocked you over in the process and barking. Or maybe you were bitten by a dog or threatened by your parents not to go to a particular place as there was a dog. Whatever the reason, the one thing for certain is – there will be a reason whether you remember it or not. When you were born you had only one fear a fear of sudden loud noises. Every other phobia and fear is learned through our own or vicarious experiences.
You realise that you are being irrational but you feel powerless to do anything about it and believe you will always have to live with your fear. Having a dog phobia can be awkward and embarrassing ahaving to turn down an invitation to a friend’s house because they have a dog to absolute destructive having to take a longer route home to avoid a dog in a garden.
Going to the beach or the local park with family or friends can be a nightmare for you as you cannot relax, for fear of meeting or seeing a waggling tailed, four legged creature. If you are a parent you dread explaining to your child why they can’t have a dog even although all his friends do.
We have to remember it is common sense to have a respectful caution towards dogs. They do have sharp teeth and they can bite, but usually only if you provoke them or threaten them. Some breeds are known to be more vicious and unpredictable than others with a certain people trying to look threatening by having certain types of dogs and training them to be aggressive.
However, most domesticated dogs are loving and calm. They no longer have to fight for food as they are fed plenty by their loving owners.
